Wine of the Month - August

Rhine Riesling holds a distinguished place in our white wine portfolio. We consider this classic German variety to be the princess of white wines, admired for its elegance, freshness and remarkable ageing potential.

According to one theory, Rhine Riesling originated from a spontaneous cross between Weißer Heunisch and the wild grapevine (Vitis vinifera subsp. sylvestris). Another suggests that it resulted from a cross between Vitis sylvestris and Traminer, which was later crossed with Weißer Heunisch. The variety was first documented under the name Rüsseling in an Alsatian source dating back to 1348.

Since 2020, our Head Winemaker, Ferenc Takler Jr., has been crafting this Estate Selection Rhine Riesling from grapes grown in our Decs Hill vineyard. This outstanding vintage beautifully showcases the variety's character, offering a vibrant yet elegantly balanced wine. Its bouquet and palate are dominated by refreshing citrus, ripe pear and gooseberry notes, complemented by the subtle mineral and delicate petrol nuances that are hallmarks of a fine mature Riesling.
